With 2020 on the horizon, now is a good time to check in with your dentist to see if you have any treatments you can schedule before the end of the year.
Most dental plans reset on January 1st, so getting your appointments in prior is always a good idea. According to the National Association of Dental Plans, only 2.8% of PPO dental plan members reach or exceed their annual maximum annually, so don’t let that money go to waste.
Ways You Can Use Your Dental Plan Before the Year is Over
- Schedule Your Checkup: Usually, dental insurance plans cover two checkups per year at 6-month intervals. Don’t wait any longer to get your examination and cleaning; who knows, you could end up saving money down the road by visiting your dentist on a regular basis.
- Schedule Larger Treatments: Larger dental treatments can be pricey. It’s smart to wait until the end of the year, especially if you haven’t met your deductible! Out-of-pocket expenses may be less likely, plus you won’t have to worry about using your whole deductible at the beginning of a fresh year.
Keep in Mind
- Prevention will help you save. Although emergencies happen, a lot of dental treatments can be avoided if you are checking in with your dentist twice a year. Most plans cover 100% preventative treatments, so consider being proactive!
- Dental problems can worsen. By neglecting your teeth, the issue will not go away, but likely will worsen. Visiting the dentist sooner rather than later could save you more.
If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA), you’ll also need to use that before the year ends. Check-in with your dental provider, or our insurance accepted page, to learn more.
